Cheshire was a wall painting in response to environmental lighting conditions in 2 College Street in Providence, RI. A nearby streetlamp creates small projections on the wall of the building’s vestibule. These projections are rendered invisible by painting the areas they fall on slightly darker than the rest of the wall, effectively cancelling them out. At night, the painting could be seen only when a passerby interrupted the light from the streetlamp.
