Blue Corner. Hallway intersection, blue latex paint.
The main hallway is lit with cool fluorescent lights while the hallway branching to the right is lit in warmer fluorescents. The visible wall of the branching hallway is painted blue to match the cooler light of the main hallway. The juncture between the blue paint and the original color of the wall can be seen above the doorframe in the second photo.
Pink Column. Architectural column near vending machine, pink latex paint.
The left side of this column appears pink in the red glow from a nearby vending machine. The right side is painted to match this color. Other views show two unpainted faces, one lit in pink light, and an oblique view of the painted face as seen approaching the vending machine.
Beige corner. Architectural column, beige latex paint.
The front face of this column is painted beige to match the adjacent left face, which remains the original white but appears in dimmer, warmer light. The beige paint can be seen near the ceiling, where a little of the original white remains visible.
Warm Doorway. Doorway, orange and yellow latex paint.
The end wall of the hallway is painted orange to match the dominant warm color of the hallway. The effect is imperceptible from the far end of the hall but unmistakable up close. The third photo shows the orange-painted surface, a white surface under cool light, and a white surface under warm light adjacent to one another. The rim of the door window has also been painted yellow to match the warmly-lit white wall beyond.
Basement Cluster. Collection of paintings near the basement south stairwell entrance. Latex paint in various colors.
1. Overall view. 2. The green appearance of a white wall through the door window is repeated on either side. 3. The gap between the door and doorframe is repeated on the doorframe itself. 4. The cool green appearance of the tiles in the sink alcove is applied to the side of a fire extinguisher box. 5. A blue trapezoid echoes the visible portion of a distant wall.
