Cheshire

2006. Oil painting on wall.

Cheshire was a wall painting in response to environmental lighting conditions within 2 College Street in Providence, RI. A nearby streetlamp created small projections on the wall of the building’s vestibule. These projections were rendered invisible by painting the areas they fall on slightly darker than the rest of the wall, effectively cancelling them out. At night, the painting could be seen only when passersby interrupted the light from the streetlamp.
